1)IISc- The Best institute in India for everything

2)IIT Kgp-Good for everything, only drawback its in WB

3)IIT Kanpur- Good for everything but faculty ego

4)IIT Mumbai- Famous for CS, Instrumentation, Aerospace

5)IIT Madras - Famous for Precision engg, Mechanical, VLSI, Aerospace

6)IIT Delhi- famous because it is in Delhi

7)IIT Guwahati - famous for nano technology, biotech funding

8)IIT Roorkee- famous for seismic studies

In terms of research, I believe IISC is a better option for you as it is dedicated towards research in individual subjects and is known more for research than the IITs. IITs are good for btech and not as good for research. However, IITs are more known internationally and certainly help on good placements due to a very strong alumni base. The choice is yours eventually, name of IITs vs. better facilities in research at IISC.
