Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
For GATE examination it's better that you prefer from a group of text books which you have gone through your in Engineering Standards. It's better that you go through standard books rather than preferring a single guide. Some of the text books which you can prefer are:-
Enginnering Thermodynamics: PK Nag IC Engine: ML Mathur and RP Sharma Gas Turbine and Propulsive Systems: PR Khajuria & SP Dubey Fluid Mechanics: Modi & Seth, RK Bansal Compressible Flow: SM Yahya Heat and Mass Transfer: JP Hollman, RC Sachdeva Refrigeration and Air Conditioning: CP Arora, Domkundwar Fluid Machinery: Jagdish Lal, RK Bansal Theory of Machines: RS Khurmi, Malik & Ghosh Mechanical Vibration: Grover Machine Design: Shigley, VB Bhandari Material Science: WD Callister, IP Singh Production Engineering: Kalpkjian Schmid, Amitabh Ghosh & AK Malik Industrial Engineering: O P Khanna, Buffa & Sarin Operations Research: Kanti Swarup Strength of Materials: Gere & Timoshenko, BC unamia, Sadhu Singh Books of RK Bansal, O P Kanna and RS Khurmi are mostly preferred in various Universities across India. Some of these text books mentioned above have bits mentioned for each chapter in the ending.Going through those bits from each chapter will help you for GATE as well as other exams like IES.Maintain formulas, short-cuts and tips/tricks in notes so that you can solve problems easily well this can be gained only by practice. You can even prefer G.K Publishers book which may help you in solving bits in a simpler way. |

Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
dear friend,
To prepare for GATE exam you have to study your text books throughly.. Try to gather knowledge as much as you can.. You can also read some reference books to gain more knowledge. For practice you can refer books like- GATE by GK publishers.. Solve previous year question papers which will give you an idea about the question pattern.. As you are from Mechanical stream then you can follow the list of books:- *Enginnering Thermodynamics: PK Nag *IC Engine: ML Mathur and RP Sharma *Gas Turbine and Propulsive Systems: PR Khajuria & SP Dubey *Fluid Mechanics: Modi & Seth, RK Bansal *Compressible Flow: SM Yahya *Heat and Mass Transfer: JP Hollman, RC Sachdeva *Refrigeration and Air Conditioning: CP Arora, Domkundwar *Fluid Machinery: Jagdish Lal, RK Bansal *Theory of Machines: RS Khurmi, Malik & Ghosh *Mechanical Vibration: Grover *Machine Design: Shigley, VB Bhandari *Material Science: WD Callister, IP Singh *Production Engineering: Kalpkjian Schmid, Amitabh Ghosh & AK Malik *Industrial Engineering: O P Khanna, Buffa & Sarin *Operations Research: Kanti Swarup *Strength of Materials: Gere & Timoshenko, BC unamia, Sadhu Singh So, read all these books throughly.. All the best. |

Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
It is good to know that you are interested for this exam.. But it requires a lot of practice and hardworking to crack this exam..
1. Engineering mathematics – b.s .grewal . B.s grewal is quite good and sufficient book to cover gate mathematics syllabus . 2.engineering mechanics – r.s khurmi . R.s .khurmi is sufficient book to cover gate syllabus . 3.strength of material – sadhu singh . Sadhu singh is complete book for strength of material and no need refer any other book. 4.theory of machine :- 1.r.s khurmi , 2.s.s rattan. R.s khurmi is good book for theory of machines . 5.mechanical vibration –grover refer any good book for mechanical vibration . 6.machine design :- r.s .khurmi 7.fluid mechanics :- 1.p.n. Modi & s.m .seth. 2.r.k .bansal ,3.jagdish lal modi & seth book is complete book for fluid mechanics have good theory and very good numerical collection. 8.heat transfer :- 1. D.s .kumar 2. R.k rajput . 9.basic thermodynamics- p.k.nag excellent book for thermodynamics. 10.power plant engineering :- p.k nag good for steam turbine part as well as gas turbine.for gas turbine you can also refer i.c engine book (m.l mathur and r.p sharma) 11.i.c engine :- m.l mathur and r.p sharma 12. Refrigeration & air -conditioning :- c.p arora c.p arora is excellent book for refrigeration & air -conditioning for theory as well as for numerical . 13.turbo machinery :- p.n. Modi & s.m .seth. Turbo machinery basically part of fluid mechanics so you refer fluid mechanics book only .modi & seth is quite good book ,you can also jagdish lal for that also if you already have that. All the best.. |

Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
1.First let me compare between Electronics and Tele Communication Branches,
Electronics----> Can apply for Both electronics and telecommunications jobs & Electronics Jobs Tele Communication--->Can only apply for telecommunications jobs 2.Between Electronics and Mechanical, Electronics having more job opportunities than Mechanical Mechanical also a very good branch so you are interest is more important than job opportunities |

Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
Dear pal,
GATE exam is conducted every year and with this score aspirant can apply for masters course and public sector units. The syllabus for the exam includes mathematics calculus, probability, linear algebra, differential equation , complex variables, etc applied mechanics and design strength of materials, engineering mechanics, theory of machines, vibrations, Fluid mechanics fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics and application engineering material, metal casting, forming, inventory control, operational research. Etc you can choose any standard book. There is nothing like you should choose only this book. You can also choose the book which you referred during your college exams.do not limit yourself to a single book refer many books. Some of the books are below engineering thermodynamics - p.k . Nag fluid mechanics- modi and seth theory of machines- kurmi strength of materials- punmia production engineering -Kalpkjian Schmid |

Re: List of books for Mechanical Engineering for GATE preparation?
Hello,
Graduate Aptitude test in engineering is entrance exam for Btech students who want to do Mtech. You can prepare for your GATE in ME with the following books as I mentioned here. S.K.Model series of books for Mechanical Thermodynamics by P.K.Nag Thermodynamics by Rajput Thermodynamics by Cengen Boles Mechanics of solids by R.K.Bansal Theory of machines by SS.Ratan Theory of machines by RS.Khurmi Mechanics of fluid by R.K.Bansal Heat transfer *Incropera_Fundamentals_Heat_Mass_Transfer_7th edition Manufacuturing SK.Mondal Manufacturing by Ghosh and mallik Material science by William calister's 5th edition Material science by Rhagavan Vibration by Fundamentals of Vibrations - Meirovitch Metrology by Metrology-Chapter9 Limits, Fits & Tolerances - Mahajan Applied thermodynamics by Applied_Thermodynamics__Singh 3rd_Edition Regrigeration by Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, 4th Edition - (Malestrom) By refering the above books you can prepare for the GATE.In the gate most of the questions from basics,so stress more on the basics in every subject. In gate questions from mathematics are quite easy compared to other subjects so prepare the mathematics to solve every question from the mathematic in the exam.Question from production engineering, operational research, project management also quite easy.Question from aptitude also plays a key role in the exam don't neglect them. ALL THE BEST. |
