Is it possible to join Merchant Navy after completion of 12th from Arts stream? What is the minimum qualification needed for the same? Can you please guide me with the complete details on this? Awaiting for the response soon. Thank you!

No, it is not possible to join Merchant Navy after completion of 12th from Arts stream.

The eligibility criteria required for Merchant Navy are as mentioned below :-

-The candidate should have passed 10+2 class or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognized board.

- The candidate should have passed Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering or a Degree of B.Sc in Nautical Science degree to join in the navigation or marine engineering branch of Merchant Navy .

- The candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% in Graduation degree without any backlogs.

- The candidate age should not be more than 25 years.

Merchant Navy have opportunity for all candidates pursing different levels of educational qualification.Merchant navy provides job oriented course before which candidate have to go through about 6 month off sea training.

Student of 12th in arts faculty doesn't have subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics. Since, these student can go for technical posts. As a students of arts you also can try luck for non-technical cadre comprises of jobs.These jobs are challenging and exciting.

1]Deck Crew.
2]Saloon course ( catering)
3] Standards of Training and Certification of Watch keeping (STCW).
4]Commercial diver

These jobs need educational qualification upto 10th with minimum 50% aggregate and age limit from 17 t0 25 years of age.

You cannot get job in the Merchant Navy. To serve Merchant Navy you must have completed 12th in science stream with PCM subjects.

Since you are arts student, it is not possible for you to apply.

For job in Merchant Navy you have to complete B.Sc in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering course. Both are not possible for Arts student.

Eligibility:-

Education: 12th standard with PCM.

Age : No more than 20 years.

Age SC / ST: Up to 25 years.

Candidate should not be married .

Physical Requirements: Minimum height 150 cm

Vision: 6/6 etc.

Direct entry:-

Complete 12th standard with PCM and apply for the Deck Cadet job. Upon selection by the company you will have to go through three months long pre sea training after which you will get job.

Complete B.Tech in

Mechanical / Technology / Electrical and apply for the various officer level jobs.

But before you do, it is mandatory to complete 9 months long Pre Sea course in Marine Engineering from MERI.

Eligibility to join Merchant Navy:

Aspirants must have completed 12th standard from science stream having mathematics as a compulsory subject.

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to join this course.

It should be in between 16.5 to 19 years.

One who has completed 12th standard with Arts stream is not eligible to join this course.

As per the eligibility criteria, a candidate who has completed 12th standard with physics, chemistry and mathematics from a recognised board is only eligible to appear for NDA exam to join Merchant Navy. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to join this course. Being a arts student who are not eligible to join Merchant Navy.

No, you are not eligible to apply for Merchant Navy after completing your 10+2 level in Arts stream. The candidates need to study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th level. You need to have a graduation degree in any of the selected disciplines.

The eligibility criteria for Merchant Navy are

The candidates should be Indian citizen.
Only Unmarried Male candidates are eligible.
The candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th level with a minimum of 60% marks.
The minimum qualification to apply for Merchant Navy is to have a graduation degree in any of the following courses

Normal vision is required however glasses up to +/- 2.5 is allowed.

The selection procedure is

Written Entrance Examination
Screening Test
Interview and Medical Test.

After passing a candidate has to give NDA exam for applying in Indian army or merchant Navy.

Eligibility criteria for NDA exam-
A candidate must be 12th passed with physics, chemistry and mathematics as the main subjects in class 12th.

A candidate must have minimum 19 years of age and maximum 26 years of age.

As a art student you can join in non technical field like- deck crew and commercial driver etc.
