To become IAS (Indian Administrative Services) you need to attend an entrance exam conducted by UPSC. There are 3 rounds of the exam.
1. Preliminary
2. Mains
3. Personal interview

The syllabus for the exam is listed below.

- Preliminary examination syllabus includes currents affairs, general studies, history of India and aptitude.
- Mains examination syllabus includes general studies, essay writing and about Indian economy & geography.

So, you need to focus on social studies, aptitude and mathematics so that you can get through civil service exam and become an IAS officer.

There is no specific subject in which one need to be expert to qualify in Civil Service examination conducted by UPSC.

The examination is conducted in three stages as Preliminary, Mains and Interview. So, you need to have better preparation of examination as according to syllabus.

There are General Studies paper and optional paper in which candidates are eligible to select the paper other than discipline of bachelor degree.

So, you must have better knowledge about optional paper to qualify in Mains stage. For more information about examination visit at www.upsc.gov.in.

I.A.S stands for Indian Administrative Service and for recruitment you have to qualify in all three stages of Civil Service examination.

The examination is not to have best knowledge in a particular subject. So, candidates good in General Studies ( Science, English, Social Science, Ethics, Sociology, Essay, Current Affairs ) will qualify in examination.

So, you must have to focus on all these paper to qualify in examination. Other than written examination the final stage ( interview ) is also compulsory to qualify.

To get more information about syllabus visit at www.upsc.gov.in.

To become an IAS officer, you need to clear UPSC civil services examination which has 3 phases.
This exam requires thorough knowledge of history, geography, science, polity, environment, current affairs, international relations and all related topics. UPSC provides complete syllabus for preliminary and mains examination. For mains you need to prepare one optional subject also, which is based on post graduation level.
Since you are in Class 9th, you have ample amount of time to study all these subjects. Moreover if your dream is to become an IAS officer only, then you have to plan your 12th class and graduation accordingly. Your can pursue graduation in one of the optional subjects to give you an edge during mains examination. Some of them are agriculture, botany, zoology, law, chemistry, physics, maths, geology, geography, and many others.

You are now at a much lower age,so you are fortunate to have ample time for preparation. Civil service is not a job for single specific knowledge. One needs thorough knowledge of everything as your posting can be in any department regardless of your graduation degree specialisation. Exam is conducted for almost all subjects combined such as History, Geography,Civics, Economics, Public Administration, Science, Language, Literature, English, Mathematics AND GENERAL AWARENESS/CURRENT AFFAIRS. You have time so keep your focus in studies. No subject is useless and less important. When you will be appearing after Graduation, there might be few changes in exam pattern but the subjects and requirements will be this only. All the best
