There is no direct examination to become Police Commissioner. Senior Indian Police Services officers are selected for this top post in Police. Your first step should be to appear for Civil Services exam.

Civil Services examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission for different services like IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS etc. Candidates who have done bachelor's degree can apply for this exam. You need to be minimum of 21 years to apply for this exam. There are three stages which you need to clear, Preliminary exam, Mains exam and personal interview.

After service some years in Indian Police Services, you may be elevated to Police Commissioner depending upon your performance and work experience.

You cannot become a Police Commissioner directly. You need to clear UPSC civil services examination which is conducted every year. Then according to the merit, candidates are allotted services according to their ranks. Top 200 candidates in general category normally get IPS and it varies further as per the category of the candidate. OBC candidates can even get IPS till 600 rank also.

In IPS also, the starting post is SP of the district after probation. During probation, they get charge as SHO of the city. After SP, then there is SSP, then ACP and then the post of Commissioner comes. So in any case there is no scope of becoming Commissioner within 24 months.

To clear UPSC Civil services examination, you need to pass all the three phases i.e. preliminary, mains and interview stage which is based on a set pattern. syllabus and scheme of the examination is present on the UPSC site.

and to become eligible for UPSC ,you must be a graduate with age limit, 21-32 years for general category with 6 attempts allowed. Other categories have relaxation in age limit and attempts also. You can check the notification for this year to understand all the details of the examination.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
