I am going to complete my 12th standard with physics chemistry and biology as main subjects and I am interested in doing merchant navy, so am I eligible to join in merchant navy?

Eligibility criteria to Merchant Navy:-

Unmarried male

Age limit is 19 to 23 years

Should be Indian

Education Qualification:-

The candidate should have passed graduation from a recognised University with the physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Final year students can also apply

A candidate should be physically and mentally fit

Eyesight- 6/6

Height - 167 cms

Weight - 50 kgs

Chest- 77 CM normal/ 82 CM expanding.

Being a Biology student, you are not eligible to join Merchant Navy because to join Merchant Navy a candidate must have completed 12th standard with PCM from a recognised board.

Eligibility criteria to join Merchant Navy:-

> A candidate must pass 12th with physics, chemistry and mathematics from recognised school or board.

> A candidate must be Indian citizens.

> A candidate must be unmarried male / female.

> You have to pass 12th with minimum 60% marks.

> A candidate must be mentally and physically fit.

> Your eyesight should be 6/6.

> Chest should be 77cm - normal and expanding - 82 cm.

> Graduates are also eligible for merchant navy.

> Final year students are also eligible to apply for this.

> Minimum age limit is 19 years.

> Maximum age limit is 23 years.

Eligibility criteria to join the Merchant Navy:-

Candidate must have passed 12th standard with at least 60% in PCM means physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Candidate's minimum age must be 17 years and the maximum be 25 years.

Candidates with disability are not eligible for this.

Candidate's eye sight must be 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in better eye and 6/18 in other eye for distant unaided vision.

Color blindness in any case is absolutely not permitted.

For pursuing Merchant Navy course in future, you must have studied 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

As you have studied with Biology in 11th and 12th, so you are not eligible to apply for Merchant Navy course.

Admission to Merchant Navy course is done through JEE Advanced Exam.

After qualifying JEE Advanced exam, you will have to opt for anyone of the following course like:

• B.E Marine Engineering
• B.Sc Nautical Science
• M.E Marine Engineering
• B.Tech Naval Architecture and Ship Building
• B.Tech Marine Engineering
• Diploma in Nautical Science
• MBA Shipping and Logistics

You are not eligible to join Merchant Navy as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics are the required subjects to opt for the course in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering.
You would have been eligible to join if you had had Mathematics as one of your subjects in 12th standard. Apart from this one should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness to get into Merchant Navy.
