M.Phil is not a necessity for NET exam. PG degree from any of the recognized University is the basic qualification required. The qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks. NET exam is conducted for selecting candidates to lectureship as well as JRF. For JRF the upper age limit is 28 years and for lectureship there is no age restriction.

NET - National Eligibility Test conducted by UGC two times a year one in June and other in December for selection of Lectureship and award to Junior Research Fellowship(JRF).

The eligible candidate aspiring for NET must be an Indian National having completed Post Graduation Degree with 55% marks(50% for SC./ST candidate) from a recognised University. There is no upper age limit for those applying for Lectureship but those applying for JRF should be within the age of 28 years.
