what s the expected cutoff for mech in gate 2011??

Hello friend,
The GATE cutoff is depends upon the number of candidates appears. So this will changed every years. This years cutoff will be 27 marks for general candidates. For SC/ST the cutoff will be 21.66.

this year question paper is litle bit tougher than the previous year but it is similar to the 2010 question paper..............so expected cut off for general will be definately 25 marks.............all the best guys

GATE stands for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and it is one of the toughest post graduate Entrance Exams in our country.
It is conducted by the IIT's in order to select candidates for the M.Tech program in various IIT's, NIT's and other colleges across the country.


Now as we all know, today was the official GATE exam i.e on 12th February 2012 (SUNDAY).

So the cut off marks for the 2012 GATE cannot be told exactly.

However it can always be estimated by reviewing the Cut offs that prevailed in the GATE 2011.

I am listing the details of the GATE Mechanical Cut offs for the 2011 year :

1. GEN - 30.81

2. SC/ST/PH - 20.54

3. OBC -27.73

So the GATE 2012 cut off would be somewhere near about. The GATE 2012 results would be out by March Mid.

So till that time, you have to wait for them.

GATE stands for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, it is one of the post graduate Entrance Exams in our country.
It is conducted for the students to pursue thier M.Tech program in various reputed colleges IIT's, NIT's and other universities across the country.

This examination is conducted every year on the second sunday of february and the results are released on 15th of march.

The cutoff depends from branch to branch and sometimes it's constant to all.

Last year gate cutoff was around

General : 25
OBC :22
SC/ST : 20

This year even some of the government companies like BHEL, NTPC, Power Grid, IOCL, have been linked with GATE if you clear GATE you will be eligible to attend interview directly.

So as of now this year there has been no such update as soon the update is available we'll get to you.

See this is a controversy question. Although it varies year to year.Generally two main factors are fully depend on this which are :

1. Number of students appeared in the stream in which you are appearing in.
2. Maximum marks obtained in a year by a candidate.


According two the factor your GATE score is evaluated. So especially there is no fixed marks to get chance in IITs and NITs.

Although I will tell you about this. According me it is 40 to 50 marks you have to get out of 100.

I got 29.44 markes in mech. Engg. for general catagory can i selected in gate 2012

I think gate paper for mechanical is tougher than 2011 so cutoff is around 25-27.

expecting 36 marks in mechanical

Many guys are saying that it would be around 35-40. It is impossible that cut-off marks will be such.

Another point, none can predict & again no polls can answer it accurately becuase this time, above 50,000 have appeared in the examination for Mechanical. Cut-off marks is set according to the average marks of all the student & not according to the marks of top students.

gate cutoff depends upon the no. of candidates. Around 60000 candidates participated in 2010 and 82000 in 2011 and respective cutoff was 25 and 30 .

GATE QUALIFICATION DOES NOT CONFIRM YOUR ADMISSION IN IIT'S AND NIT'S. it confirms only your m.h.r.d scholarship when you got admission in m.tech.
As per toughness of the exam, cutoff should be around 27-30 marks . but this year, many p.s.u are giving jobs via gate. so may be, cutoff can go higher

With the paper being tougher than 2011, u can definitely expect a cutoff less than 2011 which was 30.8 for GM!!!
Another advantage of being more students appearing this time and paper being tougher than 2011 and most of them writing to get into any one of the psu's i feel the priority is the job and not Mtech!!! So if at all, the outset for writing gate is "job" then many might have not prepared for the exams!!! of course there are lot many who have worked hard but still i might edge in the favor of a lower cutoff preferebly in the range of 25-29!!! Of course not less than 25 and not more than 29 or it will be too difficult to chase the dream of getting into an mtech course through gate for many students!!!
I really hope that the results might just turn into the favor of this comment as many students are having there fingers crossed!!!
