IES Stands for Indian Engineering Services Examination .IES exam is conducted by UPSC in once time in year.IES examination is generally conducted in the month of June in every year. If you have completed engineering degree from below given department then you are eligible for attend to IES Exam 1.Civil Engineering 2.Electrical Engineering 3.Mechanical engineering. 4.Electronics and Communication Engineering The applicant age should between 21 yrs to 30 yrs.Age relaxation is provide for SC/ST/OBC candidate. GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering .This exam is conducted for M-Tech admission , PHD admission and some of the organization recruit the candidate through GATE score. If you have Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture then you are applicable for GATE Exam OR If you have Master degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent ,then you are applicable for GATE Exam . There is no specific age criteria .So you can apply here any stage of your career . . |

Do not worry ,here I am explaining you about the both GATE and IES after which you will be able to understand the difference between the two: About GATE exams GATE is the Graduate Aptitude test in engineering.It is conducted by the Indian Institute of technology for selecting candidates who are eligible to pursue their master's degree in engineering or technology from the IITs. Bachelor's degree in engineering or technology or master's degree in science ,computer applications is the minimum educational requirement for this exam. There is no upper age limit and no bar on no of attempts. Recently various PSUs like NTPC,BHEL,SAIL,GAIL etc has started to recruit candidates on the basis of GATE scorecard. About IES exam: In contrast to the GATE exam,IES is the Indian Engineering services which is conducted by the Union Public service commission. For this exam you should have bachelor's degree in engineering or technology from a recognized university . The age limit for the IES exam is 21-30 years and the age relaxations is three years to obc and five years to sc/st respectively. There are four attempts for general candidates ,seven for OBC and no limit for the sc/st candidates. It is three day entrance examination and if you clear this exam then you will able to get good and respectable job in the various field like Indian Railways,Defense etc. Note: In terms of career aspects ,for an engineer IES is the best option than GATE exams. The acronym for GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The acronym for IES is Indian Engineering Services. The main difference between GATE and IES examinations is prescribed as below:- 1. GATE examination:- * Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. * GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IIT's. * The examination is of three hour duration with patterns and syllabus varying from paper to paper. The exam is conducted in two modes - offline and online. * Eligibility criteria:- a) Completion of graduation in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/Computer application. b) Completion of post-graduation in Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications. c) Age criteria is not required. d) Nationality:- Indian. 2. The main difference between GATE and IES is GATE is meant for higher studies and IES is for job opportunity inder Central Govt.
GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an entrance exam conducted by IIT and Indian Institute of Science for admission to M.Tech. courses in IITs, NITs, IIS and other reputed Institutions. There is no upper age limit for application to GATE and there is also no restriction to number of attempts to GATE. IES - Indian Engineering Service conducted by UPSC for appointment of young Engineers in the top technical post under various Central Govt. Dept. The eligible candidate should be within the age 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate. There is also restriction to number of attempts to IES which is 4 attempts for General candidate and seven attempts for OBC candidate while there is no such restriction for SC/ST candidate. |

No problem, Here I explain you what is the difference between GATE and IES About IES: IES stands for Indian Engineering Service. It is 'A' grade civil service. The exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission in every year. The minimum age is 21 to apply. Maximum age is 30 years to apply the exam for general category candidates. There is 3 years and 5 years relaxation for OBC, Sc/ST candidates. Every student belong to any branch attempt IES exam About GATE: GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering conducted by IITs every year. Through Gate you can get admission in M.Tech and PhD programs in various reputed institutes like IITs, Nits etc. Gate card is valid for two years. Through gate you can also get service in various companies like NTPC, BHEL, ONGC, Indian Oil, Sail etc. There is no upper age limit and no bar on no of attempts. IES - Indian Engineering Service conducted by UPSC for appointment of Engineers in the top Technical post under various Central Govt. Dept. and only meant for job opportunity. The eligible candidate should be a B.Tech. Graduate within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate and there is a restriction to number of attempts to IES which is for 4 attempts for General candidate, 7 attempts for OBC candidate while there is no restriction for SC/ST candidate. |

General Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) is the entrance exam conducted for M.Tech admission. The students who have completed B.Tech and want to pursue M.Tech are required to appear for the GATE entrance exam.
Apart from B.Tech graduates, the candidates who have completed M.Sc and MCA are also eligible for the General Aptitude Test for Engineering. Apart from offering admission in M.Tech, GATE is critical in getting PSU job. There are various Public Sector Undertakings that select candidates for the job based on their performance in the GATE entrance exam. While rest of the PSU companies also give importance to good GATE score. They will exempt a candidate with good GATE score from appearing in the written test. Apart from PSUs recently some companies have started to give importance to the GATE score while offering job through on campus placement. To be eligible you must have either completed B.Tech graduation or should be at least in final year of the course. The GATE score is only valid for 2 years after which you will have to reappear. Indian Engineering Service is the entrance exam conducted for job in government departments. The students appear for the IES entrance exam to get job and that is the sole purpose of this entrance exam. There are various government departments that recruits candidates through this entrance exam. You must have completed Engineering in the following streams to be eligible for this entrance exam. Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Civil Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering Eligibility 1. Valid B.Tech degree in the streams mentioned above. 2. There is no percentage criteria. 3. Even final year students are eligible. 4. Your age should be 21 to 30 years to apply. 5. You can get 3 years relaxation is belongs to OBC. 6. SC and ST student is eligible for 5 years relaxation. |
