Age limit

21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs . Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate.

Number of Attempts

Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

Restrictions on applying for the examination:

A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.

Qualification Required for IPS

The minimum required qualification to become an Indian Police Service Officer is :-

1) You should have a graduation degree in any stream but from a recognized University..

2) You have to be within the age limit of 21 years to 30 years..

3) For OBC candidates..the age is relaxed by 3 years and for SC/ST candidates..the age is relaxed by 5 years..

4) You have to be physically active and fit in order to clear the physical examination round..

5) Maximum attempts allowed for general candidates is 4, for OBC candidates its 7 and for SC/ST/PWD there is no limit..

There are 2 rounds in the written exam :-

Stage-1 Prelims or CSAT which has 2 papers based on Aptitude and General Awareness..

Stage-2 has 3 papers based on Essay, English and General Studies..

After this..you will be facing the Medical Examination round..

Finally you will have to clear the Personal Interview round..

Minimum education criteria is graduate only in any field.
then you have to apply for UPSC exam,
after this you have to take the prelim exam in a subject of your choice and also on GK.
Then you have to write main exam both exams are subjective type.
In main exam you have to select 2 main subjects.
After you clear exam then your GD and interview is taken.
Based on all the performance as in GD,interview and marks of exams you are selected for IPS or IAS.

2. Permitted problems in Vision: Total amount of Myopia which includes cylinder should be less than -4D, and total amount of Hypermetropia which again includes cylinder should not exceed +4D.

3. Additionally, aspirants must have high grade color vision and binocular vision.

4. Chest Girth expandable: Men - 84 cm, Women - 79 cm. [expansion: 5cm].

5. Spectacles is allowed, but UPSC doesn’t mention anything about Lasik.

6. All joints should show perfect motion.

7. One more common misconception is about the physical test. Please keep this in mind that UPSC will conduct only medical test. There will not be any physical test.
