For joining the Indian Foreign Services as an officer, you have to crack Civil Services exam, which is conducted by UPSC every year.

The minimum educational qualification required for Civil Services examination is graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.

The age limit for this exam is 21 to 30 years for general category candidates. There is age relaxation available for reserved category candidates.

SC/ST: 5 years relaxation
OBC : 3 years relaxation
PWD: 10 years relaxation

The selection is based on the following stages.

1. CSAT
2. Mains Exam
3. Interview

Number of attempts

SC/ST: no limit
General : 4 attempts
OBC : 7 attempts
