Hello Sir, I am Mohini Harsana. I got 87.4% in 12th class in 2017 and now what I do to become a Army officer. Please Sir give me reply and guide me what I do.

No, you are not eligible to join Indian Army as an officer after completion of your 12th standard being a female candidate. As per the UPSC NDA examination notification, only unmarried male candidates who have passed 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognised board are eligible to apply for NDA examination. You should be in the age range of 16.5 to 19.5 years and should be physically as well as mentally healthy to be eligible to apply for Indian Army. So, being a female candidate, you are not eligible to apply for Indian Army.

Being a Class 12th passed girl candidate you are not eligible for joining Indian Army as an Army officer at this stage as after higher secondary school degree i.e; Class 12th only unmarried male candidates are eligible to become defense officer through NDA ( National Defense Academy).

But you can become an officer in Indian Army once you complete your graduation degree course in any discipline through CDS ( Combined Defense Services ) examination which is held by USPSC twice every year.

A girl can join Indian Army only after completion of her Graduation through CDSE.

CDSE stands for Combined Defence Services Exam .

UPSC conducts CDSE exam to make recruitment in the different wings of Indian Defence Services .

After clearing the CDSE exam, one can get recruited for the Lieutenant post in any one of the under mentioned wings of defense services.

- Indian Military Academy

- Naval Academy

- Air Force Academy

- Officer's Training Academy


Eligibility criteria for CDS exam are as under:-

- Nationality : Indian.

- Educational Qualification:

IMA/OTA - Bachelors degree in any stream.

Indian Naval Academy -B.E./B.Tech.

Indian Air Force Academy - 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics or B.E./ B.Tech.

-Age limit:

IMA - 19 years to 24 years

Indian Naval Academy -19 years to 22 years

Indian Air Force Academy -19 years to 23 years

OTA - 19 years to 25 years

-Selection Criteria :

Written Exam

Interview by Services Selection Board.

-Exam Pattern:

English – 100 marks

General Knowledge – 100 marks

Elementary mathematics – 100 marks.

For recruitment as an officer in defence service candidates have to appear and qualify in NDA or CDS examination.

The eligibility to appear in NDA examination is that candidate must have passed or appearing in 12th from a recognised board. The age limit to appear in examination is 16.5-19.5 years.

In NDA only male candidates are eligible to appear in examination.

For appearing in CDS examination candidates passed bachelor degree in any discipline are eligible. Only girls candidates are eligible to appear in examination.
