There is no relation between Core and IT as such. Usually these terms are used to refer to the field of study and the field of job. In India, IT is one of the biggest employment sector giving jobs to people of various backgrounds and domains. This applies to the engineering field more specifically. Hence, these two words have come into rampent use. The field of engineering or field of study is referred to as core field and the jobs related to that field is core jobs. On the other hand, the field related to Information Technology is referred to as IT. If you have pursued mechanical engineering, then the core sector is power plants, steel plants, etc. while if you pursue computer science engineering then your core and IT domain is same, i.e, IT field job.
