As i want to know about IAS entrance exam eligibility and Distance education degree holder can apply to the entrance???

Given below is the eligiblity required for IAS exam.......

1.First requirement you have to graduate one with any course.Ex.Science,Arts,commerce etc.

2.You have to pass graduate from recognised college.

3. Age should be above 19.

4. Age limit for open catagery is 30 years.

5. Age limit for SC/ST caste is Unlimit.

6.Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification (Para 3(iii) of Notice).

IAS exam is conducted by UPSC through Civil Service Exam.This exam conduct every year for recruiting IAS and IPS candidate .

Those candidate are graduate from any recognized university with any discipline are eligible for IAS exam.You must have citizenship of India .

You have completed graduation degree through distance mode so you are applicable for civil service exam but your degree must be recognized .

Age relaxation/Age criteria:-

21 to 30 years for General category candidates
21to 33 year for OBC category candidates
21 to 35 years for SC/ST category candidates

No of attempts :-

4 attempts for General category candidates.
7 attempts for Obc category candidates
14 attempts for SC/ST category candidates.

The IAS selection process is consist in three way

1)Preliminary exam
2)Main exam
3)Inter View.

IAS - Indian Administrative Service, to become an IAS officer, one has to crack Civil Service Exam Conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate.

As per the previous notification for Civil Service Exam, there was no mention of eligibility criteria regarding academic qualification of Graduation Degree through regular course, so Graduation Degree through distant education is eligible for Civil Service Exam.

Eligibility For IAS Entrance Exam


The selections for the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) is done through the Civil Service Exams conducted by UPSC every year..

A candidate can appear for the Civil Service Exams only if :-

>> The candidate must be within the age limit of 21-30 years, 3 years and 5 years of age relaxation for OBC and SC/ST candidates respectively..

Go through them and I hope they will help you out in your preparations..

The forms for the Prelims shall be available from 2nd February,2013 to 4th March,2013

IAS exam is conducted by UPSC every year and you must have following qualifications to apply for it:

-Graduation in any discipline from a Recognized University.

-Age between 21 to 30 years for General Category Candidates.

-Age relaxation available for SC/ST, OBC, PWD and Ex Servicemen according to the government rules.

The examination is divided into following stages :

-Civil Services Aptitude Test

-Civil Services Mains Exam

-Personal Interview

The merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Mains and Interview.

CSAT is an aptitude test and is for screening purpose and its marks are not counted in final selection.

To become an IAS Officer you have to clear the Civil Services Eam(CSE).
CSE is conducted by UPSC every year to make recruitments to 24 services/posts.
It is one of the most prestigious and toughest exam at the All India Level.

CSE is conducted in 3 stages :

Prelims/CSAT Exam-is conducted to shortlist candidatyes for the Mains exam.

Mains Exam-is conducted to test the indepth knoweledge and intellect of the candidates.

Interviews-is the test of personality of candidates.

Eligibility For CSE :

Age Limit :
General Category-21-30yrs on 1st August of the year of exam
OBC-21-33yrs
SC/ST-21-35yrs

Educational Qualification :
Minimum educational qualification is graduation in any stream from a UGC recognised University.
Final year appearing/appeared candidates can apply on provision.
Distance Education Degre holders are also eligible to apply to UPSC CSE.

Attempts :General Category-4 times
OBC-7 times
SC/ST-Unlimited times

The Civil Services Examination for Indian Administrative Service is conducted on the annual basis. You will need a graduation degree to appear for the entrance exam.

Coming to your question, distance education degree is accepted to appear for IAS entrance exam. However you must have completed the degree from a UGC/AICTE recognized college.

It will not be possible for you to appear for Civil Services Examination in 2013. You will have to wait till next year. The forms will be released in first quarter of 2014 for the Civil Services Examination.

Use the time in your hand to prepare for the examination. Get the NCERT Books for Class 12th and also download sample papers from internet. You can also give mock tests online.


IAS Eligibility

1. Bachelor degree in any stream is acceptable.

2. There is no marks criteria for IAS.

3. Age should be 21 to 30 years.

4. Upper age is relaxed by 3 years for OBC.

5. Upper age limit is 35 for SC and ST.

6. Physically Disabled Candidates can also appear.

Defence Personnal - 21 to 33 yrs

Ex serviceman - 21 to 35 yrs


Number of Attempts:
Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

UPSC comprises of three sections Preliminary Examination which covers objective type questions, Mains which is subjective type questions and personal interview questions. For eligibility part, aspirant’s age limit should be between 19 to 40 years. Relaxation is also given for SC/ST candidates of 2 years as per the government norms. Also candidate should be Indian and must possess a graduation degree.
