Hello Sachin,
I dont think the UPSC has any specific standards set for CA students.
The qualification required to write the civil service examination conducted by UPSC for IAS is a degree from a recognised university or any equivallent qualification.
So, your graduation degree makes you eligible for the exam provided you have attained the age of 21 years and not over 30 years.
(Relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC)
Once you successfully complete your preliminary exam, you will be eligible for the Main exam and that will be followed by interview.

For any further information, you may write to us or could also visit the official website of UPSC.

government, then you are eligible for IAS exams. But your age is
between 21 to 30 years. After 30 years you are not eligible for

So, please dont worry, you have a professional degree of CA, so you

Sorry dear Computer Science, is niether allowed in Preliminary nor in Mains.

From Engineering side only two subjects are allowed which is i) Civil Engineering ii) Electrical Engineering.

But you dont have to worry since from 2011 we will have Aptitude Test, subject combinations or other things are not yet cleared but it is sure that it will be better then present Priliminary.

Besides, these it is also NAAC Reaccredited Institutetion.

Cant say about Civil Service but yes many students from there have made to various good posts in Central Banks, and other high profile government jobs.

So, there is nothing to worry you can apply from Civil Service on the basis of dergee from there.

hi friend ,

Since you are a CA means you have already done graduation. And graduation is the only criterian for IAS exam. But have to check your age criterian first which is 21-30 years as on 1.7.2011 for IAS-2011.
For application you have to get it from your city's head post office by the payment of Rs. 100. And send it to the address specified in form.

@ what is the actual work of an IAS?

IAS or Indian Administrative services is a Government service of India which is controlled

by Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, Department of Personnel and Training.

The IAS started in 1946 and before that it was known as Indian Civil Services.

An IAS is responsible for the civil administration in a city/district.

The work of IAS may include

Policy Formulation for various development work

Policy Implementation

Civil administration

Advisors to Ministers

Managing bureaucracy (Center and State)

Thus indirectly an IAS is the most powerful executive of a city/district who directly

reports to ministers and suggest them the required works to be done and implement

the final decision.

The exam for IAS is conducted by UPSC.

To become an IAS you have to clear Group1 exam.
The eligibility is Degree in any field.
But CA is not a course that can be called as degree. Its just a designation. So even though you complete CA you will not be eligible to do that.
You may write degree privately and then you may try for mains(Gorup1)..
