Yes, knowing English or German is necessary in order to pursue masters in Germany. In order to get admission in the German Universities, you need to qualify in the entrance exams - GRE and IELTS or TOEFL. Both these exams test your skills in English Language. Hence you need to prepare and practice your English skills properly, both verbal as well as writing skills.

However, knowing German language is an added advantage. This is because you can adapt easily to the new environment and place where there is mainly German speaking people and some universities also demand for German Language as an essential criteria during selection.

Hello Friend !!

German Language is necessary if you are applying for any programme at a German university.

Because you will have to submit certificates confirming your German proficiency during the admission purpose.

This also depends on the Master Programme you enrolled for.

If you are enrolled in an English-language degree programme, you generally require no knowledge of German.

But you must have a good level of proficiency in English.

For degree programmes which are taught in German, you will need better proficiency in German for the social sciences than in the natural sciences.

Proficiency means in terms of writing and speaking.

Before applying for the German University you should have :

Recognition of your certificates
Aptitude tests
Language skills
Proof of financial resources
Visa
Applying to university
Health insurance
