sir,i have passed 12th class with PCM.now i want to join the MERCHENT NAVY.So please tell me how can i join the MERCHENT NAVY?

The minimum eligibility for courses in Nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

You have an option to join either the deck side or the technical side. So you either need need to go for engineering in nautical science and Marine engineering. The option is to go for pre-sea training. Either ways you will need to appear the entrance exam accordingly. Also you need to have a normal eyesight and will have to undergo a medical fitness test.

Hello Friend,

There are two ways to join merchant navy. First if you do the course form india and second you do it from abroad.

1. To do it from india you have to clear IMU (Indian Maritime University ) exam
2. For abroad you have to find a good institute...

Hello Friend,

First of all you have to clear IMU(Indian Maritime University) exam either from deck cadet side that gives BSc(Nautical Science) or from engineering side that gives you BTech(Marine Engineering) degree.
After clearing the exam you will get admission in to IMU,Chennai.Or you can also apply for any other institute such as ARI(Applied Research International)in your mind. But clearing IMU exam is compulsory.

Another way is to apply for an institute abroad such as BIMS(Barter International Maritime Studies)for which you don't have to clear any test, but its more expensive.

Friend,

Direct entrance exam for merchant navy is IMU i.e. Indian Maritime University Exam.
Last Date of Receipt of Application Form is 27 May 2011
Exam will be held on 19 June 2011.

If you get a ranking in IIT i.e. clearing IIT-JEE will sufficient for being called for counselling in IMU. The one with higher ranking will be called first.
