India is acting as a home for many healing medical practices and one such medical practice is Homeopathic medical science. The under graduation course offered in this field of medicine is BHMS or Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery.

Earlier, as far as medical degrees are concerned, MBBS was regarded as the only means of getting a career in medical field. But, this attitude of people has changed and people are opting for a career in other fields of medicines like BHMS and BAMS.

Duration of the course:

Normally, the duration of the BHMS course is five-and-half years, which is inclusive of six months internship period. Even in some states of India, the duration of the course is four-and-half years with six months internship.

Eligibility for getting admission to the BHMS course:

For getting admission to the BHMS course, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination in science stream with English, biology, chemistry and physics. In most of the states admission to this course is done based on the merit secured by the students in the qualifying examination. However, in some states, admission is done based on the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the state along with entrance test for BDS and MBBS course.

Higher studies after BHMS course:

In the BHMS course candidates can opt for any specialization like gynecology and systematic pathology, social and preventive medicine, homeopathic material medicine and pediatrics and they can also opt for higher education in any of these spheres.
