Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers belongs to the Group A service in Railway. For recruiting candidates to this post Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Combined Engineering Service Examination every year.

Structure of Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE) Exam

Two parts will be there for this exam with two sections for first part. Subjects for both parts with their marks and duration are given below

Part 1

First section of this part will be conducted as objective test while second section will be conducted as descriptive one. Subjects of two sections with their duration and marks are given below.

Section-1

  • General Ability Test – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours (Part A: General English), (Part B: General Studies)
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Paper I – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Paper II – 200 marks with duration of 2 hours

Section-2

  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Paper I – 200 marks with duration of 3 hours
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Paper II – 200 marks with duration of 3 hours

Part 2

Only those who qualify in Part 1 can attend this part. Personality test with maximum two hundred marks will be conducted in this part.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this test, candidate should possess engineering degree from any recognized University. Age of the candidate applying for this test should be between twenty one and thirty years. Candidates belonging to reserved category can get the privilege of age relaxation to apply for this test. Also candidates need to be physically strong as per the rules specified for the exam.

How to Apply?

Candidates can submit online applications through the website www.upsconline.nic.in.

Those candidates can pay exam fee of Rs.50/- by cash or online payment or credit card at any SBI branch. Candidates from remote areas may opt for offline applications. They can collect forms from the designated Head Post offices or Post Offices after paying Rs.20/-Applicants applying offline should pay exam fees of Rs.100/- through CRFS facility. There will be fee exemption for female/SC/ST/PH candidates.

How to fill the Form?

Instructions specified in the brochure should be read carefully before filling the form. Photocopy of the form should not be sent to the authority. Details should be entered in the form by darkening circles and entering the corresponding number in the box. Any changes preferred by the applicants can be accomplished by erasing the darkened circles.

Any kind of unnecessary marks or mutilation should not be made on the form. It is necessary to fill all the relevant columns. For darkening circles use HB pencils and for boxes use Ball point pen (Black or Blue). While entering code numbers, confirm they are Indian numbers having International format. Only fold the form at the spaces specified for it.
