Journalist - How to become a Journalist?


Journalism deals with the compilation and distribution of news through the print media as well as the electronic media. Journalists may have to work on reporting, inscribing, editing, photographing, broadcasting or cable casting news bulletins. Print journalists can work as reporters or correspondents in dailies and journals. Electronic journalists work in television, radio and web. To become a journalist, aspirants have to study the various courses in journalism. Most recent inclination in this regard is that leading dailies advertise trainees’ posts for which all graduates are eligible. They will conduct an entrance exam for selecting suitable graduate trainees, who have flair for writing.

Qualifying Exam

The eligibility criterion to become a journalist is a graduation or masters’ degree in mass-communication or the related fields. Aspirants should have completed the course from a recognized University or institute. Those who have done any internship in the concerned field may have quite better opportunities in journalism. Entering into career, these journalists can expect excellent emoluments.

Who is eligible to apply?

Aspirants who have completed the intermediate course are qualified to apply for the graduation programs in journalism. Graduates in the respective fields can apply for the Postgraduation programs. However, they are required to clear an entrance test conducted prior to admission for the Postgraduation course. Various institutions and Universities carry out the test.

How to prepare for exam and interview?

One should have an intrusive mind, determination and aptitude for presenting information in an accurate manner so as to become a journalist. He should have the qualities like concising data in an effective manner, organizing and expressing the thoughts evidently both orally and in writing. Aspirants should have comprehensive knowledge in the graduation curriculum so as to attend the Postgraduation entrance exam. There are many technical books on the relevant subjects that these candidates can rely up on while preparing for the test. Cultivate the habit of reading newspapers and journals to gain knowledge in current events.
