Kannur University which is considered to be one of the premier most institutions in Kerala was laid to foundation in the year 1996, a UGC registered university, for the purpose of upgrading the offerings of education in the Kannur and Wayanad Districts located in the southern most sate of Kerala of the Republic of India.

Elaborating about the campuses the university beholds. It has many campuses like the following:

• Thalassery premises in the region of Palayad enclose a land of 8.55 acres inclusive of student hostel and faculty quarters.

• The campus in Mangattuparamba is spread over an area of 21.7 acres which primarily holds the university administrative blocks.

Despite the above locations a 100 acre campus for the university is coming up at Madaipara as the main university campus.

Courses offered by the university stand very tall and quite determined of providing quality education. The courses are inculcated under the following headings:

• Arts: this include all the primary fields like languages(Arabic, English, Hindi, Malayalam etc), Sociology, Travel, Journalism etc

• Science: all the major core science fields are offered like physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, polymer, geology, biotechnology etc.

• Commerce: this have courses like BBA, BCom, BBM etc

• The university offers professional engineering Btech course as well in the trades of Computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, civil, mechanical, instrumentation and control, information technology etc.

• For the post graduate courses the university endows MSc (botany & chemistry), Masters in library and information science, MA (economics and applied economics).

• The university also offers an entire distance education school established in 2002 which offers another set of courses.

As for the eligibility and the admissions procedure in to the university, it aims differently. For the courses in core streams and basic degree courses, the short listing is done on the basis of 10+2 marks obtained or any other equivalent exam.
