The foundation stone for the establishment of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology, was laid by the then Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi on the 15th of January 1974 at Mashodha near Faizabad. After that in the year 1975, it was decided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to shift the main campus of university to Kumarganj in Faizabad rather than Mashodha in Faizabad.

In the year 1975, Government of Uttar Pradesh formed a committee of members for selection of sites for administrative and academic functions of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology at Kumarganj and as per the recommendations of this committee the campus of the university was established at Kumarganj with different departments.

Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology offers education not only in the field of agriculture, but in other faculties like fisheries, horticulture, engineering, home science and veterinary science. The campus of the university is a rural campus and the university has earned approval from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The university offers education through eight of its constituent colleges and the list of courses offered by Narendra Deva University through these eight constituent colleges is given below:

Admission of students to the different courses offered by the Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology is done based on the Joint Competitive Examination conducted for admission of students to all the Agricultural Universities located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Every year this examination is offered by the registrar of any of the agricultural university in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The number of students to be appointed for different courses offered by the Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology is decided as per the norms issued by the Government of Uttar Pradesh from time to time. In addition to the above-mentioned colleges, another college called as Mahamaya College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology was also established in the year 2002.
