North Bengal Medical College was formed in the year 1968 and is serving as the largest health care provider in the North Bengal region of the state of West Bengal. It is one of the ten medical colleges owned by Government of West Bengal and it is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The college is offering under graduation and post graduation degrees in different specialties of medicine and the courses offered by the college are approved by Medical Council of India.

Courses Offered:

North Bengal Medical College is offering undergraduate course in MBBS, which extends to a period of 5 ½ years inclusive of one year internship programme and for this course every year 100 students are admitted. The post-graduate courses offered by the college are M.D in pediatrics, physiology, pathology, obstetrics & gynecology, medicine, community medicine, anatomy and anesthesia and M.S. in surgery, orthopedics.

Admission Procedure:

The college is admitting students to the MBBS course through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (medical) and 15% of the total seats are filled through all India Central Board of Secondary Education – Pre-Medical Test. For getting admission to the postgraduate courses, a candidate will have to clear the All India Post-Graduate Entrance Examination of State Level Post-Graduate Entrance Examination.

Activities of the college:

The college believes that mere studying will not make a student good doctor; rather it is important to culture. With this belief, the college is offering wide opportunities for the students to cultivate their hidden talent. The students are encouraged to bring out their talents in the annual inter-college festival conducted by the college every year, which extends to several days. Above all, the college is also conducting a number of sports events all through the year.
