Many departments under the Central Government of India require personnel for the Group B Non Gazetted Post which also have vacancies in the various offices of Controller and Auditor General (CAG) as well. So the Staff Selection Commission holds a Session Officer (Commercial) Recruitment Exam for the post mentioned above.

Structure of SSC SO Commercial

The Session officer Commercial examination is taken in 2 stages. First stage will be the written test and the second will be the Personality test. The written test has 2 papers.

Stage 1

Paper I – Objective type questions on the subjects General Awareness, Arithmetical ability, English for 75, 50 and 75 marks respectively. Obviously the marks will be on a total of 200 and the exam has to be completed in or under 2 hours time.

Paper II – It’ll be comprised of essay type questions on Commerce for a total of 200 marks and the candidates will be given only 2 hours time to complete it. Paper II can be attended in either Hindi or English as the candidates wish.

Candidates who qualify the written test (Both papers) with minimum qualifying marks will be able to proceed to stage 2 (personality test/interview). They will be informed by the authorities. Candidates’ performance on paper I will be considered while paper II is evaluated.

Stage 2– Personality Test/Interview:

The candidates’ academic qualifications, experiences, general knowledge, extra curricular activities etc will be taken into account and his/her interests, aptitude, skills, talents, personality, communication skills etc and if he/she will serve the purpose in their posts will be assessed in the personality test. Candidates will be able to make a choice of whether to use either Hindi or English in the Interview.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC SO Commercial

The candidates should be owners of a graduate degree approved by Recognized Universities/Institutes in any of the following disciplines to be eligible to apply for this examination:

  • Commerce
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Institute of Costs and Works Accountancy (ICWA)
  • Company Secretary ship

Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age to be eligible to apply. SC/ST and OBC candidates will have relaxation of 5 years and 3 years respectively, for this condition.

The candidates should also come under any of the category below:

  • A citizen of India
  • A subject of Bhutan
  • A subject of Nepal
  • A refugee from Tibet intending to settle permanently in India
  • Of Indian Origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam intending to settle permanently in India.

Candidates other than those coming under the first category above are required to submit necessary proofs to support their eligibility.

How to Apply?

The Employment News will have blank application forms in it. Complete the form and accumulate all necessary particulars required for submission and send the forms to the addresses concerned in the respective examination centres of the candidates.

This should be done before the last date of submission which will be announced. Exam fee is Rs 100/- for general category candidates. No fee is there for SC/ST, Exs and PH category candidates and payable at concerned post offices in the exam centre chosen by the candidates.

How to fill the Form?

The application forms and all the details in it should be neat. Details should be valid and complete. Forms should be rechecked after fill up to see if there are any errors. There must not be any errors in the form and once submitted, candidates cannot request to make changes. Exam centres will have to be chosen appropriately by the candidates and application forms should be posted to the addresses concerned with the chosen exam centres.

Important Dates (Tentative)

  • Candidates are required to submit their complete application for up to the second week of April, 2012
  • The competitive examinations will be conducted in the mid of June, 2012
  • Candidates can get application form from the mid week of March, 2012

There are 2 stages for the exam. So a lot of preparation is necessary. For improving skills in English and general knowledge, the candidates should make use of a lot of reference materials. Paper I is comparatively easy. All topics can be covered within no time. But Paper II requires the candidates to spend a lot of time studying. Devising a good strategy so as to utilize the time efficiently is a good idea.
