Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT -2013 (for men)

Indian Air Force has invited applications from male Indian citizens for pursing courses in Flying Branch Ground Duty Branch and Technical Branch. Admissions are based on Air Force common Admission Test (AFCAT). Graduates with a minimum of 60% marks can apply for flying branch where as Aeronautical Engineers with at least 60% marks can look for technical branch.

Eligibility Criteria for Flying Branch – 14 SSC Course

Age Limitations: Applicants should be between the age group of 19 and 23 years as on date of examination. If the applicant has DGCA India issued current and valid Commercial Pilot License then such candidate will get upper age relaxation upto 25 years.

Educational Qualification: Applicants should be graduates in any discipline (three year degree course) from recognized university with 60% aggregate marks in all papers and should pass Physics and Maths at 10+2 or should hold B.Tech/ BE degree (4 years) with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks from a recognized university.

Physical Standards

Candidates should have 162.5 cms minimum height with correlated weight.

  • Minimum leg length –99 cms
  • Minimum leg length –120 cms
  • Maximum thigh length should be 64 cms
  • 81.5 cms minimum sitting height and 96 cms maximum sitting height.

Minimum visual acuity in one eye needs to be 6/6 and in the other it should be 6/9, which is correctible only to 6/6 for hypermetropia.

Eligibility Criteria for Technical Branch – 85 AEC/ 57 SSS Courses

Applicants should be between the age group of 18 and 28 years.

Educational Qualification: Applicants should be either an Aeronautical Engineer in Electronics [AE (L)] or Aeronautical Engineer in Mechanical [AE (M)].  Degrees should be possessed from recognized universities under 4 year course pattern. Those who have cleared section A and section B examinations of Aeronautical Society of India/ Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) are also eligible. The equivalent qualifications may vary according to the selected field i.e. Mechanical or Electronics.

Physical Standards: Minimum height should be 157.5 cms with correlated weight.

Eligibility Criteria for Ground Duty Branch 136 GDOC/ 29 SSS Courses

Age Limitations: Age should be between 20 and 23 years for graduates, 20 and 25 years for post graduates and 5 years integrated LLB course graduates, 20 and 26 years for graduates have done 3year LLB course in addition, 20 and 27 years for Ph.D/ M.Ed/ ICWA and CA candidates.

Educational Qualification: In order to apply for the discipline of ‘Administration and Logistics, applicant should be a graduate with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in any discipline. Those having PG degree/ Diploma (with 50% aggregate marks) in any discipline are also eligible. For the discipline of Accounts, candidates should hold 3 years B.Com degree with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks or M.Com/ ICWA/ CA with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. Those who are applying for the branch of ‘Education’ should hold a PG degree with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Physical Standards: 157.2 cms minimum height with correlated weight.

All other criteria related to medical standards will be evaluated as per the decisions of Air Force Medical Authorities and it will be final.
