Tricks to solve numerical ability questions in bank clerical exams
Numerical ability is one of the sections in bank clerical exams. It is necessary to obtain cut off marks in each section in order to qualify the test. Mathematics is rated as a tough section by many of the aspirants. But it is possible for one to score good marks in this paper through systematic preparation.
Exam Pattern of Mathematics Paper
Most of the bank clerical exams include 4 main sections, of which numerical ability or qualitative aptitude forms an important part. This section will have a total of 50 questions. The first 10 questions are based on arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The next five questions will be based on series of numbers, as to find the next number of the series or to find the wrong one among them.
Next set of 5 questions are based on the calculation of approximate value of numbers. 21-40 questions are based on aptitude topics like average, ages, simple interest, compound interest, profit and loss, etc. Final 10 questions are based on data interpretation, with data given in tables. This is the general pattern of mathematics paper in bank clerk exams. The pattern may change according to the bank which conducts this exam.
Preparation tips to clear mathematics paper in bank clerical exams
Now a days bank exams are gaining much popularity and hence the competition is also high. Therefore it is really necessary to prepare well for these exams prior in advance. First of all, the candidate should have an idea on the number and type of questions asked for the test. You need to practice doing all types of problems from simple to complex ones.
Practicing model question papers and questions of previous year’s clerical exams is one of the most effective methods to gain enough confidence in clearing the exam. One should keep a time limit for answering a specific number of questions. Try to reduce this time limit on each successive trial of answering the same number of questions. This method is much effective for increasing the speed and for better time management.
Using short cut or quicker methods is much effective in reducing the time of problem solving. This can be achieved only through regular practice of question papers. Books on short cut and quicker methods can be purchased from nearby book stores or the candidate can approach coaching classes for guidance.
Referring Books on quantitative aptitude is also useful in clearing the exam. Monthly weeklies like banking services chronicle, pratiyogita darpan, etc will also be helpful.
