You twist your body look up straight lift your chin and do almost all sorts of things to look the best in that attire. There is not a single one of you who does not gaze at the pictures of the sexy models both male and female that is displayed outside clothing stores and other such places.

Preface

A career in modelling actually suits anyone in theory. But in reality there are some aspects to modelling which are only friendly to a few. But still the modelling industry is one of the biggest career choices among the 21st century youngsters and what was once considered to be a feminine domain is now offering equal opportunities for either sex.

A career in the modelling industry offers unparalleled opportunities today but it is not easy to taste success as the competition is fierce. In India there had been a sharp rise in the number of youngsters who were adapting a career in modelling mainly because of the glamorous and lucrative lifestyle the career offered.

Factors for rapid demand of models

The ever increasing spurt in TV commercials and number of products in the lifestyle segment is the main driving force behind the rapid and ever increasing demand for good models. Today the retail industry especially clothes and accessories are all about advertisements and promotion campaigns both of whichrequires a large number of well groomed models.

Bollywood too has its share in the spurt as models are required for playing roles in movies, promotions, campaigns and a whole bunch of ventures. Various marketing and advertising firms are always on the lookout for talented models that they can utilise in ads and ramps to highlight new trends in the fashion industry.

What the profession needs?

So how can you become one among them?

The answer is not very easy as it seems. The job of a model does not require any significant academic background or language proficiency even though good flair in English is always an added advantage. This might be another reason for a majority of school students taking up a modelling career right after their school.

The most desired qualities that any model requires are of course good looks. Good looks do not imply that he or she must have a fair skin. It’s in the charmingness of the complexion and not the colour that matters. A good model must have very good personality traits. They should always carry a smile on their face and having a photogenic face is the biggest stepping stone to a bright career in modelling.

The ability to carry oneself on the ramp irrespective of what attire they are wearing is a key factor that gives you a higher rating than others. Show gazers must be attracted to whatever element you are trying to portray to them just because you are the one adorning it. Today models are used in promotional and advertisements of various luxury and lifestyle items like Gold, Silver and other precious metal Ornaments, Watches and other such accessories, clothes, electronic gadgets and equipments, Automobiles and in fact everything that is up for sale in the market today.

The different products that you may have to model for requires you to follow different styles and attitudes for each and as such a model should have a lot of patience and tolerance and must be willing to work in several hard and sometimes intolerable environments and work conditions.

A good Physique is essential

The biggest physical aspect a model should have is of course a perfectly shaped body. Frequent work outs in Gyms and other rigorous physical exercise are needed for men to maintain a muscular yet sexy and trimmed body tone whereas women may have to practise Yoga and other not so hard physical exercise routines to stay in shape. The biggest flaw that can happen to a models career is gaining of unnecessary weight. It will be difficult to lose but very easy to gain. In order to stay at the top you will have to stay slim and fit.

Short lived career

The most dangerous thing about modelling is that it has a very small life span. The best suited time period for resorting to modelling is between the age limit of 21 to 35. After 35 the chances of you getting established is a big doubt as the industry is always on the lookout for fresh faces. But during this short period you can have a very lucrative career. If you manage to get recognised by a wider audience, then opportunities will knock at your door every now and then.

There are rumours of models especially female models having to favour their clients in order to have a booming career but this is a common topic in the world of glamour.

How to begin?

The first thing you have to do in order to get into a good modelling career is to prepare a good portfolio for yourself. By portfolio we mean that you should have a good number of photographs of yourself taken by professional photographers and then you must showcase them to potential fashion and modelling firms and agents. If you manage to impress them then they will take care of the rest.

Rewards and Remuneration

During the starting stages of a modelling career you may find difficulty in adjusting with the pay offered as it might be very low but this is an industry where it takes just a second to become famous. A good portrayal at a fashion show or any such modelling events will surely take your remuneration packages to a whole new level. After 2 or 3 successful years in the industry a good model can demand a pay package of around Rs 50000 to Rs 3 Lakh per modelling assignment and the more famous you become more becomes your brand value.

Final Say

Thus in the world of glamour there is no dearth in opportunities and the only thing you must have is the determination i.e. both mentally and physically to take on the challenges posed by the glamour world.
