National Institute of Science and Research offers 5 year Integrated M.Sc programme and Ph.D programme in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Integrated M.Sc programme is intended for candidates who have completed their senior secondary education with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics as one of the subjects. Master’s degree holders in any branch of Basic Sciences can also pursue the relevant Ph.D programme.

Eligibility requirements

Integrated M.Sc programme - To pursue any integrated M.Sc programme, one should pass the XII standard from a recognized Board. Such candidates need to obtain minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD candidates) in final examination. Those who are appearing for the final examination are also eligible to pursue this M.Sc programme. But they have to submit their pass certificate at the time of admission and prove that they possess required percentage in the XII standard board exams.

Upper age limit specified for the candidates to pursue this programme is 25 years. However, SC/ST/PD candidates can claim relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit.

Candidates should not only pass their senior secondary examination with required percentage to pursue this programme, but also appear for the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) held by NISER and UM-DAE-CBS. This entrance examination is conducted every year in the month of May at specified centres in India. Admission to Integrated M.Sc programme will be based on the score obtained in National Entrance Screening Test.

Ph.D programme - To join Ph.D programme in Biological Sciences, one should complete their Master’s degree in any stream of Bioinformatics, Life Science and Biology with minimum of 60% aggregate. Those who possess a Master’s degree in any stream of Natural Science/Computer Science are also eligible to pursue this Ph.D programme if they have keen interest in Biology

Candidates need to have M.Sc or any equivalent degree in Applied Chemistry/Biochemistry/Physics/Material Science/Chemistry for pursuing Ph.D programme in Chemical Sciences. Also, they have to obtain minimum of 60% aggregate in concerned postgraduate degree

M.Sc or any equivalent degree in Engineering is required for joining Ph.D programme in Physical Sciences. Minimum of 60% aggregate is also needed for that M.Sc or equivalent degree

If the candidates want to join Ph.D programme in Mathematical Sciences, then they should possess minimum of 60% aggregate in their M.Sc or equivalent degree in Mathematics

To join any of the Ph.D programme offered by NISER, candidates need to have adequate score in CSIR-NET/JEST/GATE/INSPIRE/NBHM or any examination equivalent to it. Also, their age should not be more than 28 years while applying for the Ph.D programme.
