The National Eligibility Test, or NET, as it is better known is the entrance or eligibility testing exam or lectureship in various subjects. Philosophy is one of the subjects. There are two papers on Philosophy- paper II and paper III. Paper III is a subjective exam, the pattern of which has been described in the following.

The duration of the paper III of Philosophy is two hours and a half. The total marks carried by the test are 200. These 200 marks are divided into four sections. The first section is of 25 marks. There are five questions in this section, each of five marks. The answers are to be written in roughly thirty words.
Section II also consists of questions carrying five marks. The number of questions in this section is 15 and so the total of this section is 75 marks.

In the third section questions are from the electives of the student. The number of questions to be answered is five and students can answer all the five from their elective. The questions are of 12marks each and the word limit for these questions is 200 words. The total of this section is 60 marks.

In section IV, one question is to be answered out of the four given. This essay type question is of 40 marks.
