The Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University which is located in the city of Ajmer in the desert state of Rajasthan was duly laid to foundation on the historic date of August 1st, 1987 by the state gazette of Rajasthan. The UGC registered the university under the state in the year of 1992 and it has been working efficiently since then towards the education of the reign under its jurisdiction.

The responsibility held and performed by the university is that of teaching and nurturing nearly about 1.5 lakh students studying in the various institutions that are affiliated to the university in different divisions across the state. Today with the fleet of initial 90 colleges the university is quite boastful of its all existence.

The teachings of the university started in the year of 1990 under the fields of science like zoology, botany and other subjects like political science, mathematics and history.  But as the time progressed, courses like M.Phil. were started in some of the above departments of teachings. Moreover, the university introduced course of a PG diploma in departments of environmental technology, laboratory science & instrumentation and microbiology. Now, the big difference came when the university was shifted and stationed in its new campus wherein departments for food & nutrition, applied chemistry, computer applications, microbiology and management studies that were so included as the part of main teachings offering degrees like M.Sc., MBA, PG Diplomas and Ph.D.

At present the university holds 24 teaching departments which are well taught in 214 colleges in the entire state of Rajasthan.

As for the facilities in the campus, the library of the university is a big one and providing the best of reading and research material for any kind of study. There are journals, audio and video books, around 43000 books, CD and other well equipped facilities being extended.

The admissions to the university are either done on the basis of the central exams for entrance conducted by the state or by directly applying to the university based upon the annual forms that are released after the end of each academic session.
