Gujarat Univeristy offers the course of M.Phil in Mathematics. There are four papers in Mathematics that are namely:
•    Mathematics Paper I
•    Mathematics Paper II
•    Mathematics Paper III or Research Methodology
•    Mathematics Paper IV

Each of the paper has a maximum of seventy five marks. The total duration of each of the paper is three hours. There are different numbers of questions in different Papers. Paper I have five questions with first three been provided in pair, out of which from each pair candidates have to attempt one. The remaining two are offered in sub-questions type, with candidates having to attempt three out of five sub-questions. Each question carries fifteen marks.

Paper II has a total of five main questions, with each of the questions been divided into sub-questions. There are five sub-questions from each of the main question and candidates have to attempt any three. Each of the main questions carries fifteen marks. Paper III contains five main question with each main question divided into a number of sub-questions. Each of the main questions carries fifteen marks and all are compulsory. Paper IV has four main questions to attempt from.
