The Union Public Service commission conducts an examination to recruit the students from all over the country to recruit them in the services meant for the public and common man in India.

Pattern of examinations:

The civil services examination is divided in to two parts:

Prelims

mains

The prelims includes two papers which are- General studies, which is of 150 marks and an optional paper which is of 300 marks.

The mains exam has 5 papers which include one Indian Language of 300 marks, English of 300 marks, essay of 200 marks, general studies 300 words, and any two optional subjects of 300 words each. Amongst these come various subjects including sociology.

Pattern of sociology Paper I:

The sociology I paper of civil services has a pattern of question which is fixed almost every year. There are all together 8 questions in the paper and all the questions are of 60 marks. The total marks of the paper are 300 only. This means that out of the given 8 questions, one will have to answer only 5. The paper is divided in to two sections. Question number 1 to 4 lies in section A and question number 5 to 8 lies in the section B. the candidates are mandatory to answer question number 1 and 5 and can answer any three but will have to select one question at least from each section. The paper is printed in both Hindi and English. However, the candidates are supposed to write in the medium which is certified in their respective admit cards.

Sections from where the questions are framed:

Basically the questions are framed on the topics that are new to the society, or are causing serious discussion over it. Many such topics or areas that are prominent in the society or emerge as a major discussion issue gets somehow related to the sociology paper I question paper.
