Engineering Services Examinations conducted by UPSC is a highly prestigious examination for the recruitment in the government and civil sector. The examination provides engineers for the various sectors such as Railways and defence. The paper is very important as this is the core branch and every engineer should have knowledge of it.

Paper Pattern:

Electrical Engineering Paper (I) Conventional Paper is a subjective type paper. Total questions in the paper are 10 and 6 are to be attempted. From two sections, two questions each and from the next two sections one question each is to be attempted. Every question has sub-parts of it. Questions asked in the paper are both theoretical as well as numerical. Candidates appearing for this paper must have sound knowledge on different circuits and theorems. The paper is strictly can be answered in English; there is no other language option.

Questions asked in the paper are on different topics of electrical engineering such as EM theory, Electric circuits, Measurements and Instrumentation, Control systems etc. Questions on different theorems and laws with their applications are also asked in every paper. Paper also has data based questions and those questions are need to be solved with few assumption.

Total Marks and time allotted:

Maximum marks which can be scored in the paper are 200 and time allotted for it is 3 hours. The question paper is divided into four sections, Section A & D is of 64 marks and 2 questions are to be solved for it whereas Section B & C is of 36 marks and 1 question is to be solved for it.
