Dear pal,
you have not mentioned for which exam you are asking for subject selection. As you are now in first year you not eligible for any of the civil services. You can appear for the civil services only in the final year.
In the civil service exam you can choose your optional papers in the main exam. Before which you need to appear for the common aptitude exam . The main exam consists of 9 papers of which 4 papers are compulsory.
The various paper available for you to choose are animal husbandry, veterinary, botany, physics, statistics, economics, chemistry , zoology, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, etc.
Being a mechanical engineer you can choose mechanical engineering as one of your optional subject. And other paper can be choosen as per your interest.

dear friend,

See there are so many subjects in Mechanical department where you can pursue your M.Tech degree which are given below ::

1. Strength of Material (S.O.M.)
2. Engineering Drawing
3. Engineering Workshop
4. Thermodynamics
5. Mechanics
6. Mechatronics
7. Basic Mechanical Science
8. Machine etc.

So please select any one of these and then go for it and I think it will be beneficial for you.
