The Civil services Examination is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission. The exam is conducted in two phases. The first phase is prelims and the second phase is mains. The preliminary examination has to be cleared to be eligible to sit for the mains. Those who clear the mains are called for the interview for final selection. Botany is one of the many subjects which the students can choose from. The pattern of the examination is described below.

Paper Description

The paper is of duration of two hours and the total marks are 300. The question paper consists of multiple choice questions. All the questions are followed by four options of which only one is correct. The number of the questions in the paper is 120. All the questions are of equal marks. The answers are to be marked in a separate answer sheet. Negative marking is also there in the paper. For each wrong answer 33% of the marks carried by the question are deducted. Multiple answers are also treated as wrong answers. Penalty will also be levied for those answers. However no marks will be deducted for the questions left unanswered. So students should answer only those questions which they are confident about.
