Jawaharlal Nehru University, the highly reputed university in the country with best faculty and infrastructure offers M.phil. and Ph.D courses in various disciplines and subjects. JNU shall hold entrance exam for Educational studies (Psychology, Sociology, Economics, and history of education). The Zakir Husain Centre for Educational studies offers M.phil in educational studies and Ph.D. in Sociology, History, Psychology and Economics.

The Zakir Husain Centre for Educational studies is one among the nine centres of the School of Social Sciences under Jawaharlal Nehru University. Its teaching and research programmes are in the fields of Economics of education, history of education, Social psychology of education, and sociology of education. The competitive nature of this examination is very high because it is a national level entrance examination.

Structure of JNU Educational Studies Entrance Exam,

The written test is the evaluation of candidate’s knowledge in basic concepts and theories of,

  • Sociology
  • Economics
  • History
  • Psychology

The aptitude for research in education and the capacity for analysis of the candidate will also be evaluated. The question paper includes two parts. First part is for all the candidates and five sections in the second part. Four sections corresponding to the questions relating to Sociology, Economics, History and Psychology. The fifth section includes the question of general interest.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate should have any one of the following qualification,

  • The candidate having a Masters degree in the subject concerned should have secured atleast 50% marks
  • The candidate having a Masters degree in allied subjects can apply
  • The candidate having a humanities with atleast 55% marks can apply
  • The candidate having a Masters degree in natural sciences with atleast 60% marks can apply

Reservation of seats

Relaxations are given in the eligibility criteria for the following:

For the OBC category 27% seats are reserved (non creamy layer)

For the SC/ST candidates 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved respectively in all programmes of study.

For Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates 3% seats are reserved. But there is a condition same should be a minimum of 40% disability.

Irrespective of the percentage of marks all SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates can apply. They should have passed qualifying examination so as to be eligible to appear in the entrance examination. Even those who are appearing in the qualifying exam can apply.

How to Apply?

The aspirants can get the form through post by Demand draft (valid for 6 months) drawn in favour of JNU payable at New Delhi.  A self addressed envelope of minimum size  30 cms x 25 cm indicating the category for which the application form is also send with it.

The details have to be send to the Section Officer (admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru university, New Delhi-110067.

Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted. Please do not send your request through private courier services

The aspirant can purchase the form from the Counter in the Administrative Block of the University on cash payment.

How to fill the Form?

The candidate should fill the form according to the direction for filling the form from the information booklet obtained along with the application form. It is very important to read the guidelines given in the prospectus and understand the instructions clearly. The candidate should be genuine while filling personal information in the given form.  Avoid mistakes and make sure to complete all the details in the application form.  Send the filled form with proper documents before the closing date to the correct address.
