Anantnag District is located in the southern sector of the valley of Jehlum and due to the delicious fruits, fragrant flowers, fertile soil and melodious flow of sweet waters of its springs, its lofty mountains and inspiring majesty, the district has come to be synonymous with greatness. The whole southern part of the district, which is contiguous with tehsils of Kishtwar, Banihal and Reasi of the Province of Jammu and eastern sector, which is contagious with tehsil Kargil of Ladakh division includes mountains and thick forests. On the other hand, the western and northern sides of the district are bounded by the Kulgam District and Pulwama District respectively. When compared to other districts of the state, it claims the largest number of streams like Lidder, Arpath, Brengi and Sandran.

Among these, the most important is the Liddar that takes of from Sheshnag lake and irrigate most of the areas of the district.

Education in Anantnag District:

When it comes to education in the district of Anantnag, the district has more than 630 primary schools, more than 250 middle schools and nearly 100 high/higher secondary schools. When it comes to colleges in the district, it has six government colleges located in different parts of the district and here are the names of these colleges:

All these government colleges functioning from Anatnag district are affiliated to the  Kashmir University and they are meant for offering education in the arts, science and commerce education at the UG level and even some colleges offer education in these faculties at PG level. Some of these colleges are meant only for arts courses, while some are meant for commerce courses. However, some of them offer courses in all these faculties. All other colleges are co-education colleges and these colleges are provided with the best possible infrastructural facilities. District of Anantnag being a district with wide natural resources, the district is also served by the above-mentioned government colleges thereby developing the educational scenario of the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
