Admission to engineering courses in Anna University is based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination. Admissions will be carried out through the single window system. Candidates are required to fulfill all the eligibility criteria in   order to apply for the various branches in Engineering. A separate admission will be carried out for candidates belonging to states other than Tamil Nadu.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have completed the 10+2 level or an equivalent from a recognized board are eligible to apply. Candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the mains subjects.
  • The applicant should be a citizen of India.
  • Candidates belonging to the general category with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together in the qualifying examination can apply. ST/SC category candidates should have obtained a minimum of 35% aggregate marks.
  • Only male candidates are eligible to apply for the B. Tech /BE in Mining Engineering course.
  • Candidates applying for the Marine Engineering course are required to fulfill all the eligibility criteria as specified by The Director General of Shipping, Government of India. Candidates should have obtained an aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates should have also passed the 10/10+2 level with English as one of the subjects.

Admission Procedure

Admission to the B.E. / B. Tech Engineering course in the colleges affiliated to Anna University is carried out through the single window system.

Candidates can procure the application forms in various ways. The application form can be obtained at specified centers by remitting Rs 500. Application forms can also be obtained by post. A request has to be made to the Secretary in charge of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA). Candidates are required to send a demand draft of Rs 700 in favour of “The Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions” payable at Chennai. Candidates can also apply online.

Selection procedure will be based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination. Candidates will be called for counseling in the order of merit. An initial fee of Rs 5000 is required to be deposited at the time of counseling. Reservation of seats is applicable as specified. Candidates are required to produce the original documents for verification during the counseling session.

A separate admission will be carried out for candidates who belong to states other than Tamil Nadu. Fifty seats are reserved for such candidates. Applicants under this category are required to submit a Permanent residence certificate. Merit list for the B.E. / B. Tech course will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Candidates are required to attend the counseling session on the specified date.
