Application procedure for UGC NET Exam

University Grants Commission invites applications for National Eligibility Test twice in a year. It is a national level exam conducted for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges. Candidates are required to fill up their application online and send the print out with supporting documents to the Registrar of the University which falls under the jurisdiction in which the candidate resides.

Conditions of Eligibility

Candidates are required to secure a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks in their post graduation from Universities or Institutions recognized by UGC to apply for this exam. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject in which they did their post-graduation. Candidates belonging to reserved category can enjoy the benefits as per the prevailing norms at the time of application. Final year students who are awaiting their Master degree examination are also eligible to apply. There is no age limit to apply for lectureship eligibility, while 28 years is the maximum age limit for junior research fellowship.

Application Procedure

Applications are to be filled online. Candidates are required to download the Bank Challan Performa from the official website of UGC and then deposit the requisite test fee in any branch of State Bank of India. Test fee for the general category candidates is Rs. 450/- and for OBC students, the fee is Rs. 225/-. Reserved category students are required to pay Rs.110/-. The bank will retain its copy and return the other two copies of the challan to the candidate. After fee payment, candidates are required to log on to the official website of UGC and to submit their details in the prescribed application form. Candidates will have to upload their scanned passport size photograph in Jpeg format.

Successful submission of the application form will result in generating a attendance slip as well as admission card. Candidates are required to take print out of their online application form, attendance slip and admission card on separate A4 size papers. Candidates should affix their recent passport size photographs on the print out of the application form and sign across it. In addition to this, it should be attested by a Gazetted officer. The application, consisting of two copies of printout of online application form, one copy of Attendance Slip and one copy of Admission Card along with the UGC copy of challan and all supporting documents should be sent to the Registrar of the University (UGC Test Centre) before the allotted date.
