Bachelor of Education is a degree in the field of academics which is awarded for any particular program or course.  The short form of Bachelor of education is B.Ed. This is a degree which is mostly needed for the Teaching job in general. The candidates who have taken a graduation degree in any discipline with an intention to enter the academics field should necessarily go in for a B.Ed degree. This as a degree is very much mandatory for applying for a Teachers job in primary and high schools. This is a course of 1 year duration where in this course can be pursued as correspondence as well as distance programs.

The National Council for Teacher Education is the authorized body which regulates the various teaching courses in India. The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) program is an integrated degree course of 4 years. This is a professional degree program which is offered after the completion of senior secondary level in school (12th class). B.El.Ed. is designed to combine the studies related to-

  • Human development
  • Pedagogical knowledge
  • Subject knowledge

This degree makes the students capable of opting jobs at the academic level as well as professional areas. Another course being the D.Ed called Diploma in Education which is aimed in imparting education to the primary schools in India. The eligibility needs for this course being that the candidates should have completed their pre university course. B.Ed helps the candidates in acquiring basic knowledge about the teaching. This is a course which focuses in imparting quality education to the students.

Advantages or Benefits of Doing B.Ed

A teacher’s profession is highly demanding in today’s world. Teacher is a person who imparts knowledge to students in all subject areas. The very nature and personality of a student can be influenced by a teacher and the type of knowledge given by them. Hence this is a highly respected profession as it moulds the students to a good level.  Teachers are not only responsible in giving academic knowledge to the students but also developing good habits in them.

The most important advantage of doing a B.Ed is that it helps in getting a teachers job and also leads to the development of the overall personality of a person.

Eligibility for Doing B. Ed

The most essential requirement for doing the B.Ed course is that the candidate should be a graduate. The graduation should be in areas of Arts/Science disciplines. The candidate should have taken the graduation course from any recognized university or college. The candidates need to have secured 50% of marks in the qualifying examination.

The candidates can enter the B.Ed course after attending the written examination conducted by various educational institutions. The admission in this course will be dependent on the basis of merit in the examination. Normally, these entrance exams are conducted in the month of June/July. The pattern of the exam is objective type where in the candidates are required to choose the correct answer from the given number of options. The structure of the questions includes questions from the areas of English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Basic Arithmetic and Teaching ability. Apart from these, the candidate should also be proficient in at least one local language in some states. The entrance exam results are declared in the month of July/Aug. This course gives the candidate theoretical knowledge as well as practical training in teaching areas.

Admission Procedure for B.Ed

The admission to the course of B.Ed requires the candidate to attend the entrance examination in general. The application forms for different colleges or universities can be purchased from the college office itself. The candidates can also download the application forms from the official websites of the college or universities if needed. The basis for selecting the candidates to this course depends upon their entrance score and performance in the interview.

As already mentioned, the exam will have objective type questions. The exam will include around 200 questions in total. The question will be from the areas such as GK, common awareness, logical reasoning, and English language & also from areas of teaching related skills. B.Ed course curriculum
The bachelor of education courses are generally for a period of 1 year. The whole course consists of 2 main semesters. There is a total working days of about 204 days which include around 16 weeks class in the 1st semester and 18 weeks class in 2nd semester. The time for teaching practice will vary from 5-6 weeks. The whole course of B.Ed consists of 7 to 8 papers (depending upon the university) which includes 2 papers as compulsory papers which wholly depends upon the particular stream taken during the degree level course. There will be theoretical paper as well as practical papers. The candidates need to take any one paper as specialization.

B.Ed Course Evaluation
The course evaluation will include a practical examination as well as theory paper. The students will be given assignments, practical teaching classes etc as part of the course evaluation. A project viva will also be conducted as part of the evaluation. It is important for the students to pass in theory and practical evaluation schemes separately.
The student must attain at least 36% in theory and around 40% in practical assignments separately. Overall the candidate should have 40% aggregate in both the parts.
The practical teaching class and the evaluation will be conducted by an external examiner who will submit the total marks obtained in that section to the university. The candidate should prepare both the major and minor methods of teaching during the final practical exams which are conducted. The evaluation techniques will differ from one university to another university.
