Civil Services Examination Mechanical Engineering (Paper I) Papers
Mechanical Engineering is one of the few engineering subjects in UPSC Civil Services Examination, which the students can take up as their optional subject. The subject is, of course, taken up by the aspirants who have studied Mechanical Engineering at the graduate level or postgraduate level. The syllabus of the subject is that of degree level. The pattern of the examination of Mechanical Engineering is described below.
In the preliminary examination, the paper is objective type. All the questions have four alternative answers, of which only one is correct. The questions are of equal marks. There is a negative marking of 33%. The time duration of the exam is two hours.
The main examination of mechanical engineering is of three hours duration and the maximum marks are 300. There are two sections in the paper, each having four questions. The questions are conventional types. The first question of both the sections is compulsory. Students can answer any three questions from the remaining, taking at least one question from each of the sections. The marks carried by each of the question are 60. The questions have smaller sub-questions to which the 60 marks are distributed. Question paper is given in both English and Hindi. Students can write in the language which they specify at the time of filling the forms.
