International Maritime Academy (IMA) offers graduate, diploma and certificate courses in the field of marine studies. The institute also offers 3 day and 5 day courses.

Courses offered in International Maritime Academy

  • Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering – 4 years
  • Bachelor of Technology in Naval Architecture and Ship Building – 4 years
  • Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science – 3 years
  • Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) – 1 year
  • Certificate in General Purpose Rating (GP) – 6 months

  • Personal Survival Techniques (PST) - 3 Days
  • Elementary First Aid (EFA) - 3 Days
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR) - 3 Days
  • Oil Tanker Familiarization Course (OTFC) - 5 Days
  • Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF) - 3 Days

Eligibility criteria

Aspirants with an average of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level are eligible to apply for the Marine Engineering course and  B.Sc Nautical Science course. Candidates should have 60% marks in English at class 10/12 level.

To apply for the one year Diploma Nautical Science course, candidates should pass 10+2 with an average of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates with 55% marks in Physics at the B.Sc level are also eligible to apply. B.Tech graduates are also eligible to apply.

Candidates who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the main subjects are eligible to apply for Bachelor of Technology in Naval Architecture and Ship Building.

Candidates who have passed class 10 with an aggregate of 40% are eligible to apply for the General Purpose Rating course. ITI graduates can also apply for the course.

The upper age limit to apply for all the courses is 25 years. Candidates are required to have perfect eye vision with no colour blindness. Eye glasses are not permitted. A 6/6 vision in each eye is required for candidates to apply for the various courses offered. The specifications concerning vision are not applicable for applying to Bachelor of Technology in Naval Architecture and Ship Building.

Admission Procedure

Candidates are required to download the application forms from the IMA official website. Application forms can also be collected from the IMA office directly.

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria have the option of reserving seats for any of the courses offered. Reservation can be done by paying the reservation fee. A demand draft of Rs 25,000 should be drawn in favour of ‘ International Maritime Academy ‘ payable at Chennai. The reservation receipt will be sent to the candidate immediately.

Candidates who have reserved the seats are required to report at the IMA Administrative office. All the relevant documents should be submitted on the intimated date.

Candidates have to pass the medical test conducted by the Academy to secure an admission. Selected candidates will have to pay the required fee within the stipulated date.
