Eligibility Criteria and Admission procedure for courses in NERIST

North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) offer several diploma, certificate, undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral level courses to the aspirants. Admission procedure for each of these courses will differ. They can seek admission through common entrance tests like GATE, MAT or CAT. NERIST itself conduct written test and personal interview for admission to certain courses.

Eligibility Criteria

NEE I - Those who have passed 10th standard or equivalent examination with Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects can join any of the NEE I courses. Candidates who are appearing for the relevant qualifying examination can also pursue any of these courses.

NEE II - Courses under NEE II are offered to the candidates who have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Those who are appearing for the concerned qualifying examination can also join any of the courses under NEE II.

NEE II (Vocational) - To join any of the courses under NEE II (Vocational), one should pass 10+2 (Vocational) from any recognized Institute. Otherwise, they have to complete ITI or NERIST certificate course in any of the following trades.

  • Automobile Technology
  • Construction Technology (Draftsmanship / Surveyor)
  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Electrical Technology
  • Electronics Maintenance
  • Electronics Technology
  • Farm Machinery and Equipment
  • Food Processing
  • Mechanical Craftsmanship
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Candidates who are appearing for any of the courses mentioned earlier can join relevant NEE II (Vocational) course.

NEE II (Forestry) - Candidates are eligible to join NEE II (Forestry) course only if they have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects. It is also possible to apply for this course, if they are appearing for the qualifying examination mentioned earlier.

NEE III - For getting admission into NEE III course, one should complete 3 year diploma course from any government recognized institution with minimum of 60% aggregate marks. Candidates who have done Diploma course in any of the following trades are eligible to join for NEE III course

  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Those who are appearing for the concerned diploma courses can also apply for NEE III course.

M.Sc (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) - Those who have completed B.Sc degree in relevant stream from any recognized University with minimum of 55% aggregate can go for M.Sc course offered in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

M.Sc (Forestry) - To try for this postgraduate course, one should possess B.Sc degree in Forestry, Agriculture or Horticulture from any UGC approved institute with minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

M.Tech - B.E/B.Tech graduates in relevant stream can apply for M.Tech course offered in NERIST if they have obtained minimum of 60% marks for graduation.

MBA - Graduates in any discipline can apply for MBA course offered in NERIST if they have completed their graduation from an UGC approved institute with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Ph.D - If the candidates possess postgraduate degree in engineering/technology stream with minimum of 60% marks, then they are eligible to apply for Ph.D courses in NERIST.

Admission procedure

Those who are intended to join NEE I, NEE II or NEE III courses should first of all appear for NERIST Entrance Examination (NEE) conducted for each course. Candidates will be short listed on the basis of score obtained in NEE and counselling will be held for each course.

Admission to M.Sc courses offered in NERIST will be based on the qualifying examination where as GATE score is required to get admission into M.Tech course. Written test, Personal Interview and Group Discussion are conducted for the intake of eligible candidates to the MBA course. CAT and MAT qualified candidates need not attend the written test.

For getting admission into Ph.D course, one should appear for written test and personal interview held by concerned department. They will be called for counselling based on their performance in each of these selection procedures.
