Can I study B.Tech in Petroleum Engineering being a Diploma Chemical student?
Hello Sir/Madam,
I am doing Chemical Engineering 3 years Diploma course. After my Diploma can I study Petroleum Engineering in B.Tech? Please let me know asap. |

Yes, you are eligible to study B.Tech Petroleum Engineering course after completion of your three years Diploma course in Chemical Engineering course. You can get direct admission in second year of four years B.E/B.Tech Petroleum Engineering course through Lateral Entry admission process by appearing and qualifying Lateral Entry examinations like LEET, ECET, JELET, etc., which is conducted by your respective state entrance examinations board. By qualifying the entrance examination, based upon your examination rank, you will be allotted a seat in a particular college and you can get admission in second year of four years Petroleum Engineering course.

After completion of your Diploma Chemical Engineering course, based on your interest, you can study B.Tech Petroleum Engineering course. Since, you have passed 3 years Diploma Chemical Engineering course, you can get direct admission in B.Tech 2nd year through Lateral Entry admission process.

For admission to the petroleum engineering, candidate must have completed 10+2 with physics , chemistry and maths as main subjects or have completed diploma in petroleum engineering.
Thus for admission purpose 3 year diploma in petroleum engineering is required or else one can take admission in the basis of class 12th.

Chemical engineering is a broader category than petroleum engineering. It covers the production and use of many types of chemicals. You will need to complete a bachelor's degree for entering any chemical engineering job, and here you will study engineering concepts, design, chemistry, math, and physics.
