Re: Age limits and number of attempts for UPSC?
To appear within the limit of 4 number of attempts, is somehow fair but unjustified as there are many number of candidates from the poverty and underprivileged sections among the status of General candidates with a full grown talents, and unable to utilized due to weak in the financial and economic streangth. the limit must be considered for extension for 6 times by the UPSC BOARD.

Re: Age limits and number of attempts for UPSC?
Hi,
I have a doubt here. When filling the prelims application form i mentioned that i belong to OBC category as my father`s income was less than 450,000. But after few days if filling the form (after the last date of filling the form) i came to know that for govenrment employees (my father is a retired govt officer), only their position is considered for determining if you belong to OBC creamy/non creamy layer. My father was recuited as a class II officer and got promoted to Class I before he turned 40. So as per the rule i don`t belong to the non creamy layer. So i wanted to change my application form but UPSC doesnot allow it. My question is if i clear the prelims with marks greater then the general cutoff marks will i be able to change the details in the main application form? Regards, samrat |

Re: Age limits and number of attempts for UPSC?
hi,
UPSC exam stands for union public service commision. Age limit is 21 to 30 years. Age relaxation is given by goverment rules. A maximum of 4 attempts is permitted to every candidate and 7 to those belonging to Other Backward Classes. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the case of SC/ST candidates. All this, provided you are still under the age limit. A physically handicapped person will get as many attempts as any other non-handicapped candidate of his/her community, but if they are from the general category they will get 7 attempts. It is wiser to be mentally ready for several attempts as cracking the Civil Services Exams is a tough nut to crack the first time around; and if you do qualify you may want to attempt again to improve your ranking and therefore your service allotment. For the candidates with physical disabilities, the relaxation in upper age limit will be provided upto 10 years. Number of attempts : For General category : Maximum of 4 attempts For OBC category : Maximum of 7 attempts For SC or ST category : No limit on number of attempts If you possess this criteria, you can apply for civil services exam.
