For appearing for this exam you should be born either on 1st October 1986 or afterwards. But if you belong to the SC/ST or PD category then you can apply if you were born on or after 1st October 1981. You need to submit proof of the same. Either you must submit your birth certificate or the school leaving certificate. Without it you will not be eligible to appear for this exam.

Candidate applying for the IIT JEE exam should not have age
above 25 years.
For the reserved category candidates there is a relaxation age.
For SC/ST and OBC category candidates the upper age limit is

A candidate applying for the IIT JEE exam should be 10+2 pass having
PCM and a minimum of 60% marks are eligible to apply for IIT JEE exam.
For SC/ST and OBC category candidate 55% is required.

The age criteria for IIT-JEE 2011 exam is as follows

-The maximum age with which a candidate can appear for the exam is 25 years.

-However there is some relaxation SC, ST and PD categories up to 5 years. So for such candidates, the maximum age will be 30 years to appear for IIT-JEE.

-Candidates who belong to GE,OBC and DS categories must secure at least 60% of marks in their qualifying examination

-Where as for SC,ST and PD candidates, they need to secure a minimum of 55% in their qualifying examination.

Keep it in mind that one can attempt JEE only twice that too in consecutive years

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) conduct IIT JEE examination for taking admission in the undergraduate engineering course in all IIT college. IIT is the best college of India.

1. Date of Birth

The date of birth of candidates belonging to GE, OBC and DS categories (refer Section IV & V for details) should be on or after October 1, 1986. Whereas the date of birth of those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories should be on or after 01 October, 1981.

The date of birth as recorded in the high school / first Board / Pre – University certificate will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, a candidate must submit along with the application, an authenticated document indicating the date of birth.

The age limit for appearing in the IIT-JEE exam is 25 years of age. It relaxable upto 5 years for SC/St candidates.

Also note that a maximum of 2 attempts are allowed to appear in the IIT-JEE exam.

For 2011, only those candidates are eligible who have passed the Higher Secondary board exam in 2010 or will be appearing for the same in 2011. Candidates who passed in 2009 are not eligible.

Also, minimum percentage required in 60% aggregate with a minimum of 60% in each of PCM.

2. You must score 60% in class 10+2 exam.

for IIT Exam the candidate should have date of birth after 1 October, 1988

Its like, the year you are passing your higher secondary, you can take an attempt and the following year. At maximum only 2 attempts can be taken for this exam.

So you can consider your age according to that.
