The minimum required qualification by UPSC the board which conducts entrance exam for IAS posts is a degree certificate from a recognized Indian University. also, you have to fulfill a condition that you should be having 21 years of age.(Minimum required Age). There is no compulsion to have degree from a particular field. All streams of commerce, science, arts , business are applicable to write this entrance exam(Civil Service Entrance Exam) conducted by UPSC every year. The pattern of this exam is of three level selection pattern. In first level a common entrance exam is conducted for the preliminary screening. the name of this exam is CSAT(Civil Services Aptitude Test) . This is recently introduced in the place of traditional prelims exam. for level 1 exam there will be common syllabus so the students all streams have to prepare equally. as it is based general knowledge aptitude and all. chances are more for urban students who seems fast than rural people. Second Level is Mains exam after clearing the first level the filtered candidates will take this exam. In this mains exam you have to opt two optional subjects of your choice. In which you can select your mechanical subject as a optional. along with these two optionals you should also clear general studies paper. In optional subject selection there is no compulsion to take your subject background related options. you can go beyond your educational background and can select whatever optional you feel confident. Last and third level is Personal Interview. This will be more or less like a HR interview conducted by senior civil servant officials. you should be well prepared with what all work you have done till then to reach that interview stage. finally after successful completion of everything you will get a service of your choice according to your rank. Top Service is directly proportional to good rank. for eg. IAS can be achieved by Top 50 rankers. IPS by next 100 rankers. etc., I hope this information will be useful for you. Regards |
