Yes, you can appear for UPSC ESE exam in the subject of mechanical engineering. UPSC conducts the test once in every year. There is no upper age limit. You can try for GATE. Qualifying this test, allows you to join PSU in the role of ‘Graduate Engineer Trainee’. RRB often conducts written test and interview for selecting candidates to Section Engineer post. CDS exam is conducted for selecting candidates to Officer level positions in defense.

IES Stands for Indian Engineering Service examination

If you have engineering degree then you are applicable for IES exam OR M.Sc. degree or equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject is also acceptable for certain posts.Final year student also eligible for IES exam .

You have completed B-Tech in Production engineering so you are applicable for IES exam .Yes ,You should write the examination through Mechanical department .

The applicant age should be in between 21 yrs to 30 yrs.

If you want other Govt sector jobs , Then you can go for -

1) Banking sector ( PO , Clerk , Specialist officer exam)

2) UPSC (CSAT , IFS ,CDS )

3) SSC (FCI , CGL etc)

If you once qualify in GATE exam then also you can apply for PSU .Only interview may be conduct .

You do not have to search for any other competitive exams because as a Mechanical Engineer, you are eligible for the Indian Engineering Service. Therefore you should start preparing for the exam to be conducted next year.

It is not possible to apply for Indian Engineering Service for 2013. You will have to wait for the exam next year. It gives you enough time to prepare for the entrance exam. Indian Engineering Service is considered as one of the most difficult entrance exams in the world.

The Indian Engineering Service is conducted in 4 branches of Engineering which includes Mechanical Engineering. After clearing the entrance exam you will get job in government departments that I have listed below:-

IES Eligibility Criteria

1. The candidate should be citizen of India, Nepal or subject of Bhutan.

2. Must have completed B.Tech degree.

3. For some jobs M.Sc degree holders are also eligible.

4. There is no criteria for marks.

Dear Friend

As you have mentioned that you have done bachelor's degree in production engineering which is a sub branch of mechanical engineering.

So do not worry ,you are eligible for the Indian Engineering services as it requires only bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.Even final year candidates can also apply for the exam.

However you have to give exam in any one of the following given four streams :

>>Civil engineering

>>Mechanical engineering

>>Electrical engineering

>>Electronics and communication engineering

For you ,mechanical engineering would be the best option.

Other than academic qualification, your age must be between 21-30 years and you can avail a relaxation of three years and five years if belong to obc or sc/st category respectively.

You must be an Indian citizen. You will have only four attempts if you are from general category ,for obc it is seven and sc/st candidates have no limit that is they can give all the exam that fall within their age limit.

IES exam pattern:

Important dates for the IES exam 2014:

Date of notification:15/03/2014

Last date of receiving application:14/04/2014

Date of examination:20/06/2013

Apart from this exam ,you are also eligible for the certain other entrance exam like :

1.UPSC exams:

>>Civil services examinations

>>Indian Forest services exam

>>Combined Defense services

2.Bank entrance exam for clerk,P.O and specialist officer

>>IBPS exams

>>SBI exams

3.Staff selection commission exams

4.For getting jobs in public sector undertakings ,you can appear for the Graduate aptitude test in engineering .

Hope the information helps and satisfies you.If have any more query you can leave your message here .We will reply you as soon as possible.

Best of luck for your career.
