To be eligible for NET/SET examination the one should have minimum 55% marks
in masters degree.

This criteria is relaxed by 5% for SC, ST, PH and VH category candidates.

As you are in SC category and your marks in masters, is more than 50%, so you are
eligible to apply for NET/SET exam
.

The NET exam is conducted generally in the month of June and December every year
The application process starts in March/April for June term exam and application process
starts in September/October for December term exam of NET.
