There is no need to appear in GATE examination for the purpose of job in Non-Core companies. You have to appear in GATE examination and secure good marks to apply for jobs based on GATE examination score. So, I suggest you to check whether the companies you wish to apply for job requires GATE examination score or not, if yes, then, you have to appear in GATE examination else, there is no need to appear in GATE examination.

GATE i.e. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Basically, GATE exam is conducted by any of IIT and the candidates appeared in GATE examination has a motive to get recruited in top core companies. One must have good technical knowledge and aptitude to crack the GATE examination. After clearing the GATE examination, you can directly appear for interview in top core Public Sectors Undertakings.
There is no benefit of GATE examination if you are planning to get a data analytics job. GATE will not helps you in getting analytic job in top PSU. You should prepare for SSC examinations which helps you in getting a data analytics job in government companies.

Hello,

GATE will only help your son to land up in a job of technical field only as many PSUs and other core companies take people on the basis of score in GATE. Moreover, if your son wish to continue higher studies (M.Tech) in IITs/NITs then GATE can be very crucial for him but if he has propensity towards non-core areas you must allow him to do so as there are various fields in which a candidate can usher in notwithstanding appearing in GATE.

Thank You.

Sir, since you son is in final semester of BE Metallurgy, i would suggest that he should appear in GATE 2019 and apply for jobs in PSU companies.
PSU companies offers very good career opportunities and very good salary and benefits.

After passing BE in Metallurgy, getting good job in data analytics will not be easy as all good companies requires course in data analytics to give jobs.

Your son has two option as to try to get jobs in his core field in which he has studied for 4 years and have good knowledge and appear for GATE 2019 exams , advertisement for which will come in sep 2018 and try for jobs in PSU.

Or else do an 2 years MBA from good colleges like IIM, XLRI etc.

He can appear for CAT, XAT exams for doing MBA
